THIS IS UNION - OFFICIAL PARTNER OF WASPS RFC

Our very own Creative Director has put pen to paper with Wasps Rugby Club for the 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership season.

Scott, who co-runs THIS IS UNION on Pierpoint Street in Worcester city, has landed a deal to design the front cover of Wasps’ match day programmes for every home league game up until May 2019.

As a keen rugby fan, Scott originally entered a competition to design Wasps’ match day programme front cover for Wasps’ home match against Leicester Tigers last September, and club bosses were so impressed with the comic book-style look, that they asked if he would carry on for the rest of the season.

“It’s opportunities like this that make me think that starting up our own business with my wife Emma five years ago from a second-hand laptop on our kitchen table was well worth it,” said Scott.

“I’m a big fan of rugby and comic book illustrating – so this was a great opportunity for me to merge two of my favourite hobbies.

“I like applying the comic book approach to my work because there’s no pressure of making the subjects look exactly like they do in real life, so it allows you to have some fun.

“The thinking behind the Wasps programmes are that a lot of the players are heroes in the eyes of the fans, so transforming them into larger-than-life comic-like characters on the front cover was the obvious thing to do.

“The plan is to carry on with the comic book theme throughout the season, featuring one, two or maybe even three players at a time. I’m also exploring the possibility of doing an Avengers-style front cover with the whole team on, so watch this space.”

Each of Scott’s match day programme designs are also being sold in Wasps’ club shop at the Ricoh Arena.

Rob Langley-Swain, Head of Marketing Services at Wasps, added: “Everyone at the club said this was the best rugby match day programme front cover that they’d ever seen, which was reflected in our sales, so to secure the services of Scott for the season is a real coup for the club.

“They’re incredibly eye-catching and have generated a lot of chatter on the concourses.

“We didn’t have Scott in place for our first game of the season against Exeter, so we have asked him to back-illustrate so we will have a full set of comic-style match day programmes for the full 2018/19 season.”
