Backstory
Our very own Creative Director put pen to paper with Wasps Rugby Club for the 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership season… Thankfully, this deal was for him to perform off the pitch, not on it!
Wasps are one of the best-known names in world rugby, with a proud history spanning over 150 years. The club has been crowned European Champions twice and English Champions five times, three of which were back-to-back.
However, Wasps felt it was time to match their flair on the pitch with their matchday programmes for every home game of the season. Enter new signing Scott Jenkins. Scott, a keen rugby fan himself, introduced an exciting comic-book style illustration featuring key players from the squad to breathe some life into their off-field game.
Insights Gained
“The thinking behind the Wasps programmes are that a lot of the players are heroes in the eyes of the fans, so transforming them into larger-than-life, comic-like characters on the front cover was the obvious thing to do.”

The original opportunity came as part of a competition in which Scott entered his larger-than-life comic book style entry to win the cover of a single matchday programme vs Leicester Tigers RFC. Upon blowing his competition out of the water, Scott was asked if he would continue his illustrations for the rest of the home season 2018/29.
Rob Langley-Swain, Head of Marketing Services at Wasps said “Everyone at the club said this was the best rugby matchday programme front cover they’d ever seen, which was reflected in our sales, so to secure Scott for the rest of the season is a real coup for the club.”
It’s not the winning, it’s the taking part… well actually it’s the winning, but without the ‘taking part’ element we would never have come across such a fantastic opportunity. We’d like to thank Wasps RFC again for an amazing project and look forward to working together again soon!
