Backstory
Playing in the Greene King IPA Championship, the Cornish Pirates are one of the finest rugby clubs playing in the Championship division.
Founded through a combination of Penzance & Newlyn RFC, the Cornish Pirates have been competing since 1945. Following a turbulent history and the hard work of their dedicated players, staff and developers, a bright future lays ahead for the Cornish Pirates and they move ever closer to building a brand-new stadium in collaboration with Truro FC and Truro & Penwith College; a Stadium for Cornwall.
This Is Union were selected to become the creative partners of the Cornish Pirates for the 2019/20 season and breathe life into their digital and traditional creative assets. Following our work with Wasps RFC, this was a project the team were sure to take on!
Insights Gained
'Cornish Pirates is the jewel in the region's sporting crown. Cornish pirates have plans to grow and rise through the rugby ranks with the aded advantage of knowing how they will get there. They asked us to deliver campaign creative for the 19/ 20 season that encapsulated all that they stand for. So "Together We Rise" was born.'

The Cornish Pirates have become a formidable team in the Greene King IPA Championship, but it was now time for their off-field game to rise to the challenge. We were asked to create brand-new email footers for multiple members of staff so that communications with the club would have a professional look. We also designed email footers that highlighted the next fixture with CTA’s for recipients to purchase tickets and increase sales.
We were also designed perimeter boards with the slogan “Seize the Season” to encourage local businesses to invest in advertising with the Pirates to increase revenue and help them become one step closer to their dream stadium.
Working with the Cornish Pirates was an extreme pleasure for This Is Union. It’s not every day you get to design perimeter boards that will be televised across the nation. Working with another amazing rugby club has given us exciting insights into sports marketing and left us wanting more!
